I was hiking the other day when a flash of color caught my eye, it was a Bluebird, leading the way for spring time to arrive. A short time later I was laying on the side of a ridge watching a group of 9 Whitetails work their way through a cattail swamp. While I was watching I could hear screeching shrills, as I looked up I saw 5 Bald Eagles circling over head riding the air currents. This was a very productive experience for a short hike.
I have been video taping and photographing whitetail deer in the sub zero temps. I can just about set my watch by their feeding patterns. It is early February and the bucks are still sporting their antlers. Great reference for future projects.
After 2 days of snow and 10 inches later, I finaly got out to photograph. It was 9 degrees today and I ventured out to the woods. I video taped a beautiful buck whitetail deer late in the afternoon. The golden glow of the sun illuminated the buck against the freshly fallen snow with the trees trailing long lavender shadows. The video will be archived for a future painting. When I see scenes like this it takes the sting out of the cold.
Mother nature playing tricks again. The last 2 days have been very warm 50 to 60 degrees. I found a frog sunning on the parking lot, it was moving very slow, so I put it back under some leaves. Now today December 31 it is 16 and snowy, I am getting ready to bring in the new year with some new projects. Happy New Year!!
